Building a Static Page with Hybrid News Theme in Wordpress
?reate a site with a static page and more with the Hybrid News Theme.
The Hybrid Theme, developed originally by Justin Tadlock, opens doors to a variety of possible layouts - all easy to change and to adapt through child themes. In this article, Linda shows how to create a site with a static page and more with the Hybrid News Theme.
Building the Static Page
The next step is to build a static page. The reason I want to do this now is because I have not uploaded any content. Therefore, building the static page is a great option at this stage in site development.
If you, however, have content on your site, you may want to follow along, but check your home page after you make any changes to learn how that change has altered your site appearance and your content placement.
While you might think that all you need to do is go to the "Settings > Reading" option in your left sidebar in WP backend, you're somewhat mistaken. You can follow those steps, but the only option you may have for the front page is the "About" page. So, when you go to the "Settings > Reading" option, you'll see the following:
Note that the radio button for "Your latest posts" is selected above at the top. All I'm going to do is click on the "A static page" to change the post page to a static page. But, since the only option I have at this point is the "About" page, the home page for Appomattox Transcription now looks like this:
That's not very handsome, is it? To make changes so I can take
full advantage of the Hybrid News Theme, I need to build a template for the
front page.

Now she uses her education and experiences in social media experiments.
Accolades for her work include fifteen first-place Colorado Press Association awards, numerous fine art and graphic design awards, and interviews about content development with The Wall St. Journal, Chicago Tribune, Psychology Today, and L.A. Times.
