Tackling Facebook Again, Peppered with some Marketing
Check the new Facebook changes, which may help you promote your business
In this article, Linda goes into depth with some of the new Facebook changes, which may help you promote your business in a more efficient manner in this medium
Conclusion
As far as I'm concerned, the second email writer was correct. Facebook is turning back into a place where folks connection socially rather than on a business level. If you "own" a Facebook personal account, however, and you want to push your own business, I would suggest creating a page so that you have just one more link back to your Web site. The creation and maintenance of this page may well be worth your efforts.
But, for you to create a Facebook Page for a client? I don't think I would go that route. Unless, of course, the client was willing to create a Facebook account and allow you to have access. That situation is dicey, however, and I can dream up all sorts of nightmares that might occur from that situation.
Instead, you may want to convince the client that using Facebook is not that difficult, and push them into using it themselves. You, then, could act as a promoter for that page and help your client gain fans from your friend base. Creating a Facebook page, unlike creating an actual personal account, is easy – especially once you know how Facebook works.
In the meantime, if you find that your friend lists don't work or that other glitches are occurring in your Facebook Pages or accounts, don't fret too much. Wait for a few hours and try again...they may work just fine. While you're waiting, you might look around at your friends' accounts to learn more about the Pages they follow and take a look at how various organizations, businesses and personal interests (such as musicians) handle their Facebook Pages...they're all different, and they're all doing different things. You might pick up on an idea or two for yourself in the process.
PS – if you haven't yet noticed, Facebook has changed a few things in the right column under your "home" page (Home, as in the link at the top right of your Facebook account when you're logged in). I would show you an image, but the column is personalized to my account and I really don't want to share it with anyone.
Look about halfway down, under "Events." You may see where your friends birthdays are listed. As if you didn't have anything else to worry about, right? If you don't see anything, check again next week, as the list changes from week to week to notify you when your friends are celebrating another year on earth. My birthday isn't until November, so don't worry about me.
