Controlling Sliding Billboard by Behaviors
How to make the Pixar Sliding Billboard Demo
In this article Patrick will show us how he made the great looking Pixar Demo, by fully controlling the Sliding Billboard navigation with Dreamweaver Behaviors. You can also check out the demo here.
1. Creating the Billboard section
The example on the previous page shows what a use controlled could look like. This demo is built from 2 separate sections. The actual Billboard is only used for the right part. This is what will be named the Billboard section.
To be able to use the behaviors with the Billboard, first a Billboard needs to be created.
- Insert a table containing 1 row and 2 columns. Depending on individual layout, the width of the table can differ. In our example the table is double the size of the Billboard.
- Place your cursor in the right column.
- Start the Sliding Billboard extension from the DMXzone tab on the Objects bar.
- Click the Add new section button.
- Click the Import a whole folder button. The DMXzone Image Resizer window is opened.
- In the Source Image Folder field select the folder where the images currently are.
- In the Destination Folder field select the folder where the images should be placed after resize.
- Set the Resize to fit option for Photos and Thumbnails.
- Click OK to start the resizing of the images and return to the Billboard window.
Note: Instead of adding a complete folder, it is also possible to add individual images by using the Add new image slide button.
All the images have now been entered into a new Billboard as separate slides.
- For each slide, enter the correct Title.
- For each slide, enter the correct Description.
Note: Entering a Title and Description is only necessary, if the Billboard should contain text and image slides. If the Billboard only contains images, there is no need to fill these to fields.
Patrick Julicher
Patrick started developing websites at the age of 25, only using HTML and building simple websites. Through the years his passion for designing and developing grew, and his career moved in that direction in the year 2004, when he decided to try and get a job in ICT and Web Development.
He got this chance at WE ICT, based in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. For the first couple of years he combined network management for customers with creating database-driven websites in ASP. Since 2008 his main work is on the developing part.
While ASP is still his favorite language, he's slowly trying to dive into ASP.NET and discover all of the possibilities.
