Send Mail - Mail Body bindings not retained

I'm trying to put some data bindings in the Send Mail > Mail Body using the HTML option, but the Server Data Content dialog box does not retain the binding values when using the Design view tab. No problem with retaining the bindings using the Code tab.Using W10, DW CC 2018

Another thing - mail does not send when Mail Body is formatted using the HTML option.
As soon as I change Mail Body to the Text option, mail is received by the recipient.
So there seems to be something amiss with the HTML option.
Please advise as soon as you can.
All extensions are current.
