I have some fairly simple PHP pages with 1 or 2 recordsets in them.

I don't know if you've had this problem reported, but some pages simply hang when I try to open them in Dreamweaver CC 2015 (I get an indefinite spinning beachball). I wonder if it has to do with Dreamweaver loading pages by default in "Live" view along with something in the DMXzone Database Connector.

Is there anyway I can troubleshoot this, or force Dreamweaver to open a PHP file in Design instead of Live view so I can examine the code, or force a refresh of the DMXzone data sources?

Unfortunately your explanation does not give us enough information to help you ... There might be millions of things slowing your DW down on page open when using the Live view.
We are not aware of any issues with the database connector slowing down Dreamweaver.
