I would like to nest tab bars by putting another tab bar into the content area of the main tabs, which does not appear to be a problem but the styles are the same for all inserted tab bars.

Can I reference the "secondary" tab bar IDs in some way so that I can make the content area of only those tab bars a different color (or add different styles for other elements)?

Unfortunately this is not possible. If you want to achieve this result you will have to customize the tabs using your custom css styles.
