Having explained in the 'LIVE' help my needs from this extension, i feel let down by the advice i received.I explained the structure of our database and sent screen grabs to illustrate. I also emailed all transcripts to myself.
This extension does not work with our database structure at all.
I need to contact support - although i have tried posting on the extension support page and never get a reply.
I have also tried the 'LIVE' support today, but didn't get any joy when i explained the problem.
I'm not very impressed at all guys....
I hope to get some response to this post otherwise i will have to seek advice elsewhere

Hello Andy,
I've got myself familiar with your issue and the only way to have the extension to display your structure is to change your database table. I can see my colleague had explained that to you very extensive. He also have offered to you an example of database table structure suitable for our extension.

Hello Andy!
Andy Hughes:
Hi - good morning
Support / Teodor:
How can i help you with the menu
Andy Hughes:
I'd like to purchase the universal css navigation menu extension but have a couple of questions
Support / Teodor:
Okay
Andy Hughes:
I'm using classic ASP, MS SQL and DW 8
Andy Hughes:
I need to create a dynamic product menu driven by the database
Andy Hughes:
the menu needs four top level sections with each containing sub menus and sub sub menus
Support / Teodor:
I see
Andy Hughes:
how does the extension create the hierarchical structure
Support / Teodor:
you can have a 2 level nested dynamic menu
Support / Teodor:
Which i think is alright in your case?
Andy Hughes:
Do you mean only 2 levels?
Andy Hughes:
category, sub category?
Support / Teodor:
Yes.. for thedynamic menus you can have 2 level dynamic menu
Support / Teodor:
MAin> dynamic sub>dynamic sub sub
Andy Hughes:
can i send you a screen grab of my database structure to explain a little better?
Support / Teodor:
Okay
Andy Hughes:
Please bear with me while i create it
Andy Hughes:
won't be long
Support / Teodor:
Okay, no problem
Support / Teodor:
You need just one recordset, having a column that has the main levels repeated, like:
1. id category product
2. ------------------------
3. 1 vegetables beans
4. 2 vegetables carrot
5. 3 vegetables salarie
6. 4 fruits bananas
7. 5 fruits appels
8. 6 fruits pineapple
Andy Hughes has sent a file. Click categories.jpg (1.06 MB) to receive the file.
Andy Hughes:
This would be fine but my database structure is already created - please see file
Support / Teodor:
Let me check this
Andy Hughes:
I have a categories table, products table
Andy Hughes:
ok thank you
Support / Teodor:
So, your main levels will be static, right?
Andy Hughes:
yes - the top four levers would be static
Support / Teodor:
Okay
Andy Hughes:
Electrical, Gas, Tools, Calibration
Andy Hughes:
Then for example, Electrical would have a dynamic sub level: 17th edition, PAT testers, etc
Support / Teodor:
yes i see
Andy Hughes:
and some of those sub section may have a sub section
Andy Hughes:
Can i send you a link to our current site - this will explain better
Support / Teodor:
Of course, thank you
Andy Hughes:
www.ourwebsite.co.uk
Andy Hughes:
The menu is static on the site, but it should give you a better view of what i need to create with the extension
Andy Hughes:
I will then be able to administer the menu from our web backend
Support / Teodor:
I see that PAT Testers has 2 sub levels
Support / Teodor:
and it will also be a sub level, right?
Andy Hughes:
correct
Support / Teodor:
that means main with sub, sub-sub, and sub -sub-sub level?
Andy Hughes:
The four main categories will remain the same
Andy Hughes:
electrical, gas, tools, cal
Support / Teodor:
Yes
Andy Hughes has sent a file. Click products.jpg (240 KB) to receive the file.
Andy Hughes:
I've sen a screeb grab of a section of the products table
Andy Hughes:
*sent
Andy Hughes:
I added the TOP four levels to the database recently - hense the ParentID of 137
Andy Hughes:
Does it make sense?
Support / Teodor:
Yes,
Support / Teodor:
as long as you don't have more than: static main>dynamic sub>dynamic sub sub the menu will the job for you
Support / Teodor:
You can select the category column as a break in order to have the first level sub menus
Andy Hughes:
Im still not clear on this bit
Support / Teodor:
Okay i'll try to explain you
Andy Hughes:
Thank you
Support / Teodor:
Look at the categories.jpg
Andy Hughes:
yes
Support / Teodor:
The first main level will be 137, right?
Andy Hughes:
yes
Support / Teodor:
and it is static
Support / Teodor:
So you create one static menu (137), and under it you put a dynamic sub menu
Support / Teodor:
In order for 17th edition, Clampmeters... and so to be each on a new line, you have to select the CAtegory column as a break
Support / Teodor:
this is all done within the interface of the menu
Andy Hughes:
ah ok
Andy Hughes:
and the same for the sub levels?
Support / Teodor:
Yes
Andy Hughes:
So do the links work in a similar way?
Support / Teodor:
Yes, the links can be dynamic or static also
Andy Hughes:
Excellent
Andy Hughes:
Making more sense to me
Support / Teodor:
You can check the videos in the product page
Support / Teodor:
In order for it to become more clear for you
Andy Hughes:
I've looked at that but i wasn't clear if my database would work with the extension
Support / Teodor:
Yes it would
Andy Hughes:
How does the menu load it's data? Is it quick?
Andy Hughes:
sorry for so many questions
Andy Hughes:
I have to ask the MD to buy the extension
Support / Teodor:
Yes, it's quick
Support / Teodor:
No problem about questions, that's my job
Andy Hughes:
Thanks
Andy Hughes:
I've seen a menu style pretty close to what i need, but am i able to tweat the css?
Andy Hughes has sent a file. Click site.jpg (97.3 KB) to receive the file.
Andy Hughes:
Please see new site design screen grab
Support / Teodor:
Yes, there is a css file for each style
Support / Teodor:
i see
Andy Hughes:
I'm sure i'll be able to make the changes
Support / Teodor:
Okay : )
Support / Teodor:
Is there something else i can help you with?
Andy Hughes:
You have been very helpful - thank you very much

Hi Andy,
I read the conversations with our live support and I don't really see the problem. It was clearly explained that the Universal CSS menu supports 2 level dynamic data.
As you bold-ed it so well in here.
I haven't saw your database structure but isn't that what you need?
Greetings,
George

George - Please reply to my previous email!
The transcript above clearly shows that your advisor is saying that the extension WILL work with our database structure! (I provided clear screen grabs of it)
In my previous email, i sent you the categories table from our database.
If you could demonstrate your extension working with this table, i'd be happy to use it.
I think that is a fair request.
Regards
Andy

Hi Andy,
Our extension definitely do not require specific database structure ... you can use any structure you like. The only thing that we said is that out of the box we offer only 2 levels of dynamic menus.
Looking at your structure you have unlimited parent/child levels so we do not support this out of the box, yes. Such structures are also very difficult to display in DW without hand coding.
You can't make a regular DW recordset with such nested data and that is the problem.
If you are familiar with asp/php coding then you can add your own code to generate the menu. the menu itself can handle nested levels - but we do not offer possibilities for that on our interface.
As I said we offer only 2 levels our of the box.
