When I insert an image into a cell it is not responsive. The height and width values are inserted to the code and when I manually remove these the image does not become responsive it stays at the fixed size.

Also I can not change the background colour of a page after I put a container into it.

This is one of the changes in the bootstrap 3 framework - the images are not responsive by default. Images in Bootstrap 3 can be made responsive-friendly via the addition of the .img-responsive class.
You can change the background of course, just make sure your custom css file is loaded after the bootstrap's css.
