I'd like to purchase the HTML5 Data Bindings Browser Properties extension currently on sale, which requires the the free HTML5 Data Bindings extension (I use Dreamweaver CS3). I installed the free HTML5 Data Bindings extension (I have no yet purchased the Browser Properties extension) but it doesn't seem to be anywhere? Am I overlooking something?

Hello Peter,
As it is described in the manual, you should enable the HTML5 Data Bindings Floating Panel by selecting Window > HTML5 Data Bindings.

Thank you Teodore: I went through the PDF: it covers lots of usage examples but is short on specifics; Unless I missed it, I did not find anything in the PDF that says Window -> HTML5 Data Bindings to display the HTML5 Data Bindings window. Can you tell me what section those instructions are in the PDF ?

In any case, I followed your instructions, the HTML5 Data Bindings window appeared and after a few seconds all selections were grayed-out, so I don't know it that's normal operation because I don't have any HTML5 Data Binding extensions installed yet (I use Dreamweaver CS3).

It is described in the first tutorial in the user's manual: www.dmxzone.com/go/21873/html5-data-bindings-manual/the_basics_using_html5.htm

QuoteHow to do it

First we are going to enable the HTML5 Data Bindings Floating Panel. From the Window menu (1), select the HTML5 Data Bindings menu item (2).

I am not sure i understand what exactly do you mean by greyed out? Follow any of the tutorials that use public feeds and you will be able to setup data on your page.

1 -Greyed-out: What is not clearly indicated in the tutorial is that the page has to be in Design-View : If the page is in Code-view the entire HTML5 DataBindings window appears greyed-out - nothing can be selected. I discovered this accidentally - but it should be stated that the page needs to be in Design View.

2 - The tutorial says to drag the Bindings window to the right side: The tutorial display is completely different than what I see (I'm using CS3). When I am in Design View I can see the Data Bindings window and it shows:

$URL
$FORM
Data Sources
Repeat Regions

Note, that each item above has a folder which I did cannot indicate here in this message.

Also, by default, the $URL is selected in the Data Bindings window, so when the tutorial says to "click the Add New Data Source Button" - the large + sign on the left of the window, because the $URL is selected by default instead of the Data Bindings Dialog window appearing, a small dialog comes up asking for the URL. So, the question is which item in the above list: $URL, $FORM, Data Sources, or Repeat Regions, needs to be selected first BEFORE clicking the Add Data Source button? I presume its Data Sources because if I selected Data Sources, then click the Add Data Source button the Data Bindings Dialog opens as shown in the tutorial -but an error dialog pops up on top of the Bindings Dialog and says:

While executing onLoad in dmxdatabindings.htm a JavaScript error occured - with an OK button to close the error message.

When I click the OK button to close the error message, it appears again, and when I click OK to close it, it's gone and the Data Bindings Dialog as shown in the tutorial remains on screen and says "Loading..." and that's it, nothing else happens.

Now aside from the issues I'm having, the tutorial assumes too much and doesn't provide enough clear instruction.

In any case, I don't know why I am getting the error message as described above.

As a check I closed down dreamweaver and restarted it. As soon as it opened I got the following error message - by the way you cannot insert an image into this message window even though the Image icon is available - that makes it really hard to show what's going on - so I have to type the message in as folllows:

The following JavaScript error(s) occured:

At line 165 of file "D:\Program files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS3\Configuration\Shared\DMXzone\dmxDatabaseConnector\dmxDataBaseSourceInspect_lib.js":
varObj,defaultValue = oneColumn.value.default != null ?
oneColumn.value.defautl: ";

SyntaxError: missing name after . operator

Hi Teodor: Any ideas why I'm getting the error messages I forwarded to you?

Hello Peter,
Unfortunately we do not support such old Dreamweaver versions anymore. CS3 is not even supported by Adobe anymore.
Technologies used in order to create the extension are not supported by CS3. Please update to a modern Dreamweaver version if you wish to use the extension.

Oh, gosh, yes I see that it requires CS5 or higher. Sorry about that, somehow I missed that "minor" point. Well, there's no urgency to upgrade to CS5 unless I can get a good deal.

It would be nice if DMXZone came out with an extension that detects the UserAgent and works with CS3 (that's why I was interested in the Browser Properties extension).

Unfortunately we are not planning to support 8 years old version of Dreamweaver.
