I've need for a cross domain rss feed, and Spry does not do cross domain (easily).

Thus, if another site uses a script similar to:

labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/utils/query2xml.html

BUT the end result conforms to RSS2, Feed Genie should be able to display the information, correct?

If your xml result is same as rss2 default ( including the version tag) and you use default rss3 tags - not a problem. because basically the Feed Genie is a XML parser and it rely on certain default tags.
