Depending on the kind of pest, we can differentiate between different methods for controlling pests, which includes biological pest management, mechanical pest management, physical pest management, toxic baits, burning fields, entrapment harvesting, and pesticide application. With certain types of pests, using pesticides as a single tactic will result in very poor control. People without chemical, biological, and electronic means to control P populations often rely on physical methods. Most biological methods are viable only with small pest infestations, such as insects or plants, and usually require a period of time before they can be effective. Unlike using, using microorganisms for pest management is a preventive approach. Natural predators are one form of biological pest control methods, but the other, which is generally used in plants, is to introduce microorganisms which defend their host species, preventing the entry of any pests.
To biologically control the pests, the pests natural enemies, such as predators, parasites, pathogens, are introduced, geographically interfering with their ability to reproduce, and by infecting the pests with deadly bacteria diseases. Pest control is attempted by exclusion, repulse, physical removal, or chemical means. The techniques that are used the most are strongly associated with the physical methods of pest control, removing and attacking the pests, thus stopping them from propagating and causing further damage to plants. The technique is used more commonly by gardeners who wish to control a pest population without using chemicals.
Using a variety of different tactics to address the pest problem generally causes the least disturbance to living and nonliving surrounding plants in the treated area. Biological control is using living organisms to suppress a pests population, making it less destructive than it otherwise would have been. Biological control also includes methods whereby the pest is altered biologically, such as the production and release of a large number of sterile males, and the use of pheromones or adolescent hormones.
Biological control may be used for all types of pests, including vertebrates, plant pathogens, and weeds, in addition to insects, but the methods and agents used are different for each pest species. In addition, many biological controls are specific to one type of pest or disease, so they do not damage any beneficial insects or other animals in your garden. Chemical controls, especially synthetic organic insecticides, have been developed for almost all types of insect pests.
