I recently had to create several different passports for a theater production. Initially, I thought I would just find templates online, but it turns out that it is not that easy to find quality passport templates for different countries. The most difficult thing was to make them look realistic and not like amateurish fakes. Has anyone encountered a similar task? Where do you get the templates or how do you create them so that they look realistic?

Yes, I had a similar experience when I was working on the design of documents for filming. I agree, it is not that easy to find quality templates, and sometimes it is easier to create from scratch. I used the tool on passportmaker.com - there you can adjust the design for different countries, which greatly simplifies the work if you need variety. This helped me a lot, because there are, unfortunately, few ready-made templates for all occasions on the Internet.

It's interesting how creating props for theatre or films requires such attention to detail! I never thought that passports in productions were a separate art. I always thought that such details were not so important for the audience, but it seems that the more believable, the better the overall atmosphere. Although I have not encountered this myself, now I am interested in how important such little things are in the process of creating props!
