I don't mind using demos for demo-ing (sp), but don't have me download something only to find out after it's not free.
As for "it's in the license field"; that's lame. you know as well as I that noone reads that before downloading.
AND the link 404s
Now I wonder about anything labeled "Free" on the entire site.
Why piss-off people who otherwise like--and buy--your stuff. It genuinely weakens your brand
