Azure Mobile Services Now Supports Windows Phone 8

Windows Azure Mobile Services will now support Windows Phone 8. The news came in the keynote at the Microsoft Build conference where focus is all about Azure, the Microsoft cloud infrastructure. The new addition means Windows Phone 8 can use the Windows Azure backend engine for push notifications. According to a blog post, Windows Phone 8 can use a single framework that supports multiple formats while allowing the apps to be distributed broadly through the Windows Store.

SmartGlass Fully Launches on Windows 8

Microsoft confirmed Tuesday that its Xbox SmartGlass companion app will launch with full functionality on Windows 8. The app will be built-in to the "Games" section on Windows 8 and RT PCs and tablets, which are launching on October 26th. Microsoft released an updated version of SmartGlass this week, alongside an updated Xbox Music app that offers free streaming and a Pandora-like Radio DJ feature. The apps come as Microsoft begins pushing out its updated dashboard, which is slated to roll out across the world.

Google to Unveil Android 4.2

The search giant is set to debut the latest version of its Android operating system, known as Android 4.2, at an event scheduled for October 29 in New York. Rather than the rumored Key Lime Pie, it will be known as Android 4.2+, or an updated version of Jelly Bean, according to a person familiar with the announcement. Google will also be showing off the first devices to run on Android 4.2, including a high-end tablet, the Nexus 10, from Samsung Electronics, and LG Electronics's first Nexus phone, the Nexus 4. Also shown off will be an updated version of the Nexus 7 tablet which debuted in July.
