Android 4.1, aka Jelly Bean, gets a more responsive user interface, a much more interactactive notification system, better voice transcription, overhauled search, and a major new feature called Google Now that tries to anticipate what a person needs to know at any given moment. Android has exploded in popularity, but the OS takes a lot of heat for allegedly being an Apple iOS copycat. Google Unveils Nexus 7 Tablet

The Nexus 7 tablet was unveiled yesterday at the Google I/O Conference. As previously reported, the device was built by Asus and comes with a 7-inch 1,280-by-800 HD display. According to Google, it's running the Tegra 3 processor and has a front-facing camera for video chatting. Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as Bluetooth and near-field communication support are also included in the device. Rumors had been swirling for months that Google would offer the tablet.

Google TV from Sony Arrives in Store

Sony mentioned during CES 2012 that its Google TV-powered hardware would come to Europe this summer, and now it's official. Along with Google, it's announced preorders are available for the $200/£200/$199 NSZ-GS7 internet streaming set-top box in the US and UK showing a ship date of July 9th, Sony says it should hit stores July 22nd, with plans to launch in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Mexico and Netherlands later this year.

Google was working on its Chrome Metro style browser, but the company has released an early version for Windows 8 Release Preview users. Chrome's Metro mode can be activated by installing the latest dev channel release from Google and switching it to the default browser in Windows 8 Release Preview. This switch enables Chrome to run in a Metro container, but not in the typical way you'd expect a Metro style app to function.

Google to Close the Motorola Deal

Google's $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility will finally close by Wednesday. Motorola Mobility announced in a Form-8K filed yesterday with the Securities and Exchange Commission that now that the Bureau of the Ministry of the Commerce of China has cleared Google's acquisition, the companies will finalize the transaction "within two business days." China announced on Saturday that it had approved the acquisition, making it the last major regulator to give the deal the green light. Both the U.S. Justice Department and European Union regulators approved the acquisition in February.

The code of the bookmarklet was released as open source so that anyone can use it to create similar browser extension.
