Early Peek At Windows Server 8
Microsoft officials showed off at the company’s Worldwide Partner Conference a first public glimpse of its coming Windows Server 8 operating system. Windows Server 8, the server complement of Windows 8 client, is on the same development track and path as Windows 8 client.

Second IE10 Platform Preview Available for Developers

Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 1 Released
Microsoft has released the Office 2010 Service Pack 1 which combines improvements, new features and previously released updates in a single update pack. The update is available for free if downloaded from the Internet. Microsoft notes that Office 2010 SP1 contains all “public updates that were released through June 2011? and all “cumulative updates that were released through April 2011? in addition to “improvements in stability, performance, and in security”.

A security firm raised new concerns today about WebGL--but Microsoft piled on with an opinion that's likely more damaging to fans' hopes for a universal 3D Web graphics standard. "We believe that WebGL will likely become an ongoing source of hard-to-fix vulnerabilities," Microsoft said in a security blog post flatly titled "WebGL Considered Harmful." "In its current form, WebGL is not a technology Microsoft can endorse from a security perspective."

The June 2011 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer is now available via Windows Update. This security update resolves seven vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer that were disclosed in coordination with Microsoft. The vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user visits a malicious, specially crafted Web page using IE.

Microsoft gave an early demonstration of the new look and capability of the next generation of Windows at the D9 conference. President of Windows Steven Sinofsky also gave an early preview even before he took the stage in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., to his conference hosts at the All Things D blog. For now it's called Windows 8, but Sinofsky says that's just a code name.
