NEW PHP Engine

The first alpha version of the upcoming new PHP scripting engine has been released for preview. This new Zend 2 engine bring to PHP tremendous and thrilling new features.

The Zend Engine is the very core of the PHP language. In this new version, the language parser has been mostly rewritten to support advanced OOB features, like :

• Static referencing
• Dereferencing objects returned from functions
• Nested class definition in C style
• Nested class definition in Perl Style (Parent::Children)
• Class constant and Class scope
• Regular object method using both local and global functions
• Multiple dereferencing of objects returned from methods
• Exception handling
• Cloneable object
• Unified constructor
• Destructor

PHP 4.2.0 Released

[22-Apr-2002] The PHP Group is happy to announce the immediate availability of PHP 4.2.0, the latest version of the widely-used, general-purpose scripting language that is especially well-suited for Web development.

This latest release contains over one hundred changes, bug fixes and improvements over the previous release, PHP 4.1.2. Among the highlights are experimental support for Apache 2, cleanups in variable handling and overhauls of various PHP components, including the domxml, posix, sockets and iconv extensions.
