Adding a payment facility for a subscription service

How would I go about setting up a system for subscribers to pay a registration fee to view the content of my site? I want them, once they've paid, to be able to view pages immediately using a login username and password. I want to automatically send out subscription renewal notices.

I would suggest taking a look at PayPal, they include the option to use Subscribers to sites.

I agree with Carl, Paypal is the best/cheapest/fluid system that no money can buy - and super safe. You can integrate osCommerce with Paypal or pratically any cart system now-at-days. They can help you out-of-the-box handle invoicing, subscriptions, shopping cart/eShop, and of course accepting and sending $, er, Euro's for all those in the Atlantic; multi-currency too so in a way you can be global but Paypal has safety precautions for you to read about that. If your subscriber list gets to be huge, then look into Paypal's Developer Center and learn about their IPN & PDT services.
