Cross-browser & Cross-platform Find In Page Script

How do I build a page search feature using JavaScript that will search all content on the current page and then highlight the found words? The script must be cross-browser and cross-platform and work on all version 4 and later browsers.

I have found scripts on sites like DynamicDrive that work well on PCs but do not work on Mac systems using IE5 or Safari. Please help!

It's kind of tricky with Javascript, because to highlight the found words the page shoud be refreshed, and when the page gets refreshed the javascript gets reloaded as well... It could be easier with PHP perhaps, as you can utilise some global variables there which will not be reset upon refresh and a little script in the head that the rest of the code passes before getting written on the screen. I'm not competent enough to give you the code, though. Just an idea.
