Site/Page Documentation
Command to generate a printable report that would list, by page:
- Site database connections
- Recordsets
- Forms and form fields
- Hyperlinks
- Images
- Server behaviors
Dreamweaver offers a wealth of great features for displaying page structure, such as the Database, Bindings, Server Behavior, and Behaviors panels, but these are only useful while you're working in Dreamweaver. What I'm looking for is a command that would generate a printable report, similar to what the Microsoft Access Documenter produces for its databases. However, I'd also want to see other, summary information about the page, such as images, hyperlinks, and the like. There may also be other summary information at the site level that would be useful to document.
This would provide a great way to generate permanent documentation for the site. (Every developer that I've ever known hates to do this kind of documentation, , yet it's really critical in the long run.) Dreamweaver's notes provide a way to do some of this documentation, but they're totally freeform and don't print very well.
Clearly, Dreamweaver stores a lot of this information in its .mno and other files, and much of it is also available from the browser document object. However, my knowledge of JavaScript and XML is way to primitive to develop something like this. I'm hoping that someone with more skills than I can find the time to develop an extension like this.
