would really like to be able to actually get hold of a tutorial detailing how to build a message board using MX.

Messaging boards
I have created a few for use on some website, the only part I have never got working 100% is showing replies within the first message listing on the front page, but they list on the view message page nicely.
In its basic level it really is just an Add and Update page structure, just needing to pull the Message ID to include with the Reply to link them up.
I did read a good tutorial in SAMS teach yourself Ultradev 4 ... if you would be interest I could send you some details or write a tutorial.

UltraEasy Message Board
The UltraEasy / DMX Message Board tutorial may have been written a while back but the important thing when building a project like this is to get the database right. The database for that project works a treat. Once you have the basics you can tweak the rest to your hearts content. Adding user log-ins, multiple subjects etc.is really easy.
