I would also like an extension for PHP/MYSQL to password protect specific pages. I would also be nice to be able to configure the extension to re-direct people to the login page if they come to a protect page directly.

Yes, please make one! Your tutorial is really good - I'm learning fast - but, heck, I'd much prefer an expert extension to walk me through it :)
