Installing The RTE Editor
Welcome to the RTE Editor
The Rte editor is an open source prject to create a HTML editor that works in a web page utilising DHTML specific to IE, it uses no activex or any other type of component, its all done in DHTML.
This short tutorial will guide you through installing and using the editor, you are encouraged to help develop this project.
The first step is to download the extension its only 128k so shouldn't take too long.
Then install the extension either by double clicking on the downloaded file or opening Macromedia extension manager and clicking file --> Install extension.
When the extension is installed open the page you wish to install the editor into:
This is a blank page, you can see the icon for the RTE Editor on the Insert Bar, if its not there, hold down CTRL and click on the little black arrow at the top of the insert bar, a menu should appear and you should see an item there which reloads the extensions.
Click the RTE Icon (sorry I am really bad at graphics), a couple of things should happen, firstly the extension should create some code in the current document that looks something like this:
Also it will create a folder in your current site called RTE_files with a few files in it.
These files are important and you should take care when moving / renaming them.
When I preview the page I inserted the editor into it should look like this:
Thats it, in the next tutorial I'll show you how to use the RTE Editor to Insert / Update content directly into a database.

Jscript error
I installed the RTE editor but I got a jscript error on line 101.
It must be something related to the font toolbar : the labels don't display correctly (@{style}, @{font}, @{size},...)
Does this mean anything to you ?
RE: Jscript error
Arnaud-
We haven't had any trouble with this extension. Can you tell me if you are using UD4 or DWMX? and on which platform (Mac or PC?)
RE: RE: Jscript error
I'm using UD4 on Windows 2000.
RE: RE: RE: Jscript error
I also got a jscript error at line 101, char 3:
'undefined' is null or not an object
BTW the form works fine for inserting and editing records, this extension is awesome!
