Google Reduces Its Cloud Storage Pricing For 2nd Time

This is competition at work: earlier this week, Google announced that it would reduce the price of its standard Google Cloud Storage by just a bit over 20%. Then, Amazon announced that it would reduce the price of its S3 cloud storage service by about 25% across the board. Yesterday, in a somewhat surprising move, Google announced that it would reduce the price of Cloud Storage by yet another 10%, resulting in a total price reduction of over 30% once you include the earlier cut.

Overall, Google’s pricing is lower than Amazon’s, though Google doesn’t currently offer a service that competes with Amazon’s Glacier service which comes with reduced availability guarantees and restrictions for how much data users can restore per month without incurring additional fees. Storage space on Glacier only costs $0.01 per GB. Earlier this week, though, Google announced its reduced availability storage service, and there, Google’s pricing is also cheaper than Amazon’s.
