Apple App Store Reaches 10 Billion Downloads
The 10 Billion App Countdown promotion has ended
The Apple App Store offered on the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad is home to thousands of apps and many of them are quality apps that users download all the time. Apple is pleased to announce apps from its App Store have been downloaded over 10 billion times, which is an awesome feat and illustrates the significance of apps in the everyday consumer’s life.
App Store counter ended
About a week ago, Apple added a counter to its App Store page that constantly updated itself to reflect the amount of apps being added. Back then, it was close to 300 million apps off the mark, which just goes to show how many apps people download daily and weekly. The person who downloaded the ten billionth app will receive a $10,000 iTunes gift card.
Winner hangs up on 10,000
Gail Davis, a woman in Orpington, England, picked up the phone, listened to someone offering her a prize, and immediately replied, "Thank you very much; I'm not interested"?
The only problem was that the caller really was someone from Apple and Davis really had won a prize. For her household was, indeed, the one from which the 10 billionth app had been downloaded from Apple's app store.
As the Cult of Mac tells it, Davis was brought to her senses by her daughters, one of whom had downloaded the free PaperGlider app.
