Social Networking Updates
A few sites that have altered their formats
The social networking scene changes constantly. In this article, Linda points to a few sites that have altered their formats – are the changes good or bad? Only you can decide...
Conclusion
Most of you already know about the major changes at Digg. If the clannish community at that social bookmarking site turned you off previously, try the new changes to see if they're more to your liking.
If you're into social bookmarking, you have a wide variety of choices, though. Social bookmarking sites are fairly off my radar at the moment, as they don't offer real value to job-hunting efforts. But, they do offer a great way to stockpile information for articles and to learn about new venues. Social networking on these sites is a bit more difficult and may not be your cup of tea...most of the folks I've met on social bookmarking sites are meeting to control their own bookmark status or to join forces to make that upward mobility occur more rapidly.
This is one reason why many of the long-timers at Digg are not happy with the new changes, which tend to level the playing field for all participants. Additionally, their new format also makes it easier for you to pick and choose who you want to hear from when it comes to sharing bookmarks. What a concept!
So, you might want to add the new Digg to your list of networking sites – but, only if you can break yourself away from your Facebook page...
Linda Goin
Linda Goin carries an A.A. in graphic design, a B.F.A. in visual communications with a minor in business and marketing and an M.A. in American History with a minor in the Reformation. While the latter degree doesn't seem to fit with the first two educational experiences, Linda used her 25-year design expertise on archaeological digs and in the study of material culture. Now she uses her education and experiences in social media experiments.
Accolades for her work include fifteen first-place Colorado Press Association awards, numerous fine art and graphic design awards, and interviews about content development with The Wall St. Journal, Chicago Tribune, Psychology Today, and L.A. Times.
