Self-Marketing Your Brand - Learning from Pros
Apply some principles for yourself as you market your goods and services
An avid Mashable fan, Linda talks about a recent article about marketing brands for clients...and how you can apply some principles for yourself as you market your goods and services.
Conclusion
I have not checked out all the tools available at the Wiki mentioned above, nor have I delved into the links listed below, which were gathered from Mashable's Facebook comments. Over the next few weeks, I may introduce you to tools that work for me – a person who doesn't sell books, but who writes articles (not as time-consuming as building Web sites, but still more labour-intensive than selling books). If I feel that these tools make my life easier, I'll be sure to pass them on to you in more detail:
- Twitter Search: While the exact tool was not mentioned, I sometimes use Twitter's Advanced Search, Google's Twitter Search or a simple Twitter Search.
- Social Social Mention: A search and analysis tool that also allows you to select social media sources that range from Ask to PRWeb.
- ScoutLabs: This site offers a 14-day free trial to measure and manage social media.
- Kurrently: A new tool that markets itself as a "real-time" search engine for Facebook and Twitter.
- HootSuite: This is a team collaboration tool that you can use to monitor, network, broadcast (much like promoting rather than pitching) and track results.
- SocialOomph: Use this site to schedule Tweets, track keywords, send DMs to new followers (something I absolutely hate, but that's a personal thing) and that provides unlimited accounts at no charge.
- Sysomos MAP – Media Analysis Platform: Ok – it's going to take some time to look this site over, so I'll merely quote their overview: "Sysomos is redefining social media analytics with a powerful product suite that provides customers with the tools to measure, monitor, understand and engage with the social media landscape. Sysomos provides instant access to all social media conversations from blogs, social networks and micro-blogging services to forums, video sites and media sources." This is not a cop-out, but a real desire to read the site...which seems to contain a lot of great information.
- Heardable: This site seems to provide more of an optimization opportunity and platform as well as a way to monitor and measure your online brand performance against your competition. Free signup, and you can get a free score on your site.
Be sure to check these sites out yourself, as you may learn something that I'll miss. As a side note, I plugged in my site at lindagoin.com and learned that I need to embed some audio to make my site more "shareable." Interesting, no?
Linda Goin
Linda Goin carries an A.A. in graphic design, a B.F.A. in visual communications with a minor in business and marketing and an M.A. in American History with a minor in the Reformation. While the latter degree doesn't seem to fit with the first two educational experiences, Linda used her 25-year design expertise on archaeological digs and in the study of material culture. Now she uses her education and experiences in social media experiments.
Accolades for her work include fifteen first-place Colorado Press Association awards, numerous fine art and graphic design awards, and interviews about content development with The Wall St. Journal, Chicago Tribune, Psychology Today, and L.A. Times.
