Static Front Pages and Stores within WordPress
Use WordPress as a static site with a store
What if you're too busy to run a blog? What if you want to use WordPress as a static site with a store? In this article, Linda will answer both those questions with ways to resolve your goals.
Bringing Shopping to Your Blog
The easiest way to create a shop within WordPress is to use the WordPress e-Commerce Plugin. WP e-Commerce integrates with Google Checkout, Paypal, Authorize.net, Payment Express and many other trusted payment processors.
1.Go to that e-Commerce link and download the plugin.
2.Open the e-Commerce folder and upload the wp-shopping cart to your plugin folder.
3.Activate the plugin and configure it to your satisfaction.
In most cases you will:
1.Set your default shipping country and associated shipping settings
2.Setup and configure the presentation settings
3.Setup your receipt notification email address
4.Setup your payment gateway
5.Add products
6.Upgrade to gold if you want to add multiple images to products
I uploaded the plugin to Writers Seminar, because I wanted an option available for participants to pay for attending my next writing seminar. While the event is not yet planned (for this fall – I better get to it!), the plugin did create a page in my top navigation bar:
What I may do at this point is remove that page from my navigation bar until I'm ready to use the shopping cart for the next seminar.
Think of the possibilities for you site – can you sell artwork? Music? Books? No matter if you have one product or a dozen, you might be able to use this tool on your site. If not, I'll point you to another page shortly that provides more options.
For more detailed information on how to use WP e-Commerce you can read (or contribute) to the new WP e-Commerce project Wiki.
Linda Goin
Linda Goin carries an A.A. in graphic design, a B.F.A. in visual communications with a minor in business and marketing and an M.A. in American History with a minor in the Reformation. While the latter degree doesn't seem to fit with the first two educational experiences, Linda used her 25-year design expertise on archaeological digs and in the study of material culture. Now she uses her education and experiences in social media experiments.
Accolades for her work include fifteen first-place Colorado Press Association awards, numerous fine art and graphic design awards, and interviews about content development with The Wall St. Journal, Chicago Tribune, Psychology Today, and L.A. Times.
