WordPress and Graphics II
Change your masthead in your WordPress theme
In this tutorial, you can learn how to change your masthead in your WordPress theme. This change may involve working with a CSS file, which Linda also covers here. You will need to use Photoshop or some other graphic program that can create .jpg, .gif and/or .png files.
Conclusion
Unfortunately (or, fortunately), the Hybrid News theme cannot support an image for the masthead except through the widget option. Although, you can try to make one fit if you want...just remember that there are many browsers out there and browser compatibility counts. By leaving the masthead alone (except for colour changes and the addition of an image through widget text), you can save yourself tons of headaches.
On the other hand, if you want to change your masthead image in another theme (including the WP default theme), you can with the simple directions shown at the beginning of this article.
In the next article, I'll continue on with graphics and help deal with some quirks and bonuses that WP uses in uploading and using graphics on blogs.
Linda Goin
Linda Goin carries an A.A. in graphic design, a B.F.A. in visual communications with a minor in business and marketing and an M.A. in American History with a minor in the Reformation. While the latter degree doesn't seem to fit with the first two educational experiences, Linda used her 25-year design expertise on archaeological digs and in the study of material culture. Now she uses her education and experiences in social media experiments.
Accolades for her work include fifteen first-place Colorado Press Association awards, numerous fine art and graphic design awards, and interviews about content development with The Wall St. Journal, Chicago Tribune, Psychology Today, and L.A. Times.
