Opera could be headed for the iPhone
Opera boss, Jon von Tetzchner, says it has built a version of its browser for iPhone
The man behind mobile browser, Opera, predicts that the iPhone will run third-party browsers and admits that his firm has already built a version that will work on the Apple handset. Read on to find out how long we’ll have to wait…
Opera boss, Jon von Tetzchner, says it has built a version of its browser for iPhone but that it has not attempted to submit it to the iTunes App Store.
Apple’s SDK does not currently allow for applications that replace the functionality of Apple’s own apps.
“You can read the SDK in multiple ways,” says Tetzchner, “But you can read it in a way that prevents a full browser being available in the App Store.”
Asked whether he had approached Apple to discuss the issue he said he had not “at that time”. Interesting. Could Opera now be in discussions with Apple?
