ZoooS Previews “OpenOffice.org 3.0 in a Browser”
ZoooS LLC today previewed ZoooS Office, a web-based office suite that puts OpenOffice.org 3.0 in a browser, targeting enterprise, SMB, and individual users alike with a blend of software-as-a-service (SaaS) and desktop advantages. ZoooS Office offers the anywhere, any device access, collaboration, and zero-maintenance benefits of SaaS combined with the security, offline support, look and feel, and application performance of a desktop suite.
ZoooS is leading the way to a whole new generation of applications that offer full-blown desktop functionality in a web browser. And combined with green computing, BIOS-based browsers, and other eco-friendly industry trends, ZoooS Office plays a role in a computing model that promises to benefit not only individuals and organizations, but the environment as a whole.
"ZoooS Office looks exactly like OpenOffice.org 3.0, using the same icons, dialogs, help text, everything to eliminate the learning curve,” said Hisham El-Emam, CEO of ZoooS LLC. “Many companies want to access their files from any location and any device, but they don’t want to store confidential files in the cloud. Companies can run ZoooS Office locally to maintain complete control over their files while still providing local and remote access from PCs, laptops, mobile devices, and even game consoles.”
Inside the ZoooS Office
ZoooS Office offers:
-ZoooS Write
-ZoooS Spreadsheet
-ZoooS Presentation
-ZoooS Draw
-ZoooS database
For each application, ZoooS provides a feature set that matches 80 percent of the application’s OpenOffice.org 3.0 counterpart to effectively compete with desktop office suites – OpenOffice.org as well as Star Office and Microsoft Office.
Later this year, the public version of ZoooS Office will be available online at zooos.com or from an intranet server deployed locally at the customer’s site. Users will also be able to install the applications on their client machines via Firefox plug-in, Opera or Mac widget, or Vista gadget, all of which can either run standalone, accessing files on the client machine, or run networked to access documents on the intranet server or zooos.com.
Other key ZoooS Office implementations will include Mozilla XULRunner; Firefox, Opera, and Safari web browsers; social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and Second Life; and Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation. Regardless of implementation,
Meanwhile, ZoooS documents, spreadsheets, and other application files may be stored on zooos.com servers or, for companies desiring greater file security and control, on local intranet servers and client machines.
