Extension can not be installed under Administrator account on Windows XP / Vista

I've just installed the latest version of a DMXzone extension in Extension Manager, then restarted Dreamweaver, but no Installation Wizard appeared. What is going on how can I install the new version?

When using the Administrator account in Windows XP / Vista, extension are installed differently with the Extension Manager. Using the Administrator account is only ment to be able to install extensions for ALL users in the system - but not working under this account.

Anyway if you really want to use the Administrators account that you need to do some extra actions so that the DMXzone installation wizard appears.

What really happens is that the installed extension go to "All Users" instead of just the "Administrator" folder.

So the extension files end up in:

Windows XP

---

On Dreamweaver 8: 

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8\Configuration

On Dreamweaver CS3+: 

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver <version>\Configuration

Windows Vista

---

On Dreamweaver 8: 

C:\ProgramData\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8\Configuration

On Dreamweaver CS3+: 

C:\ProgramData\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver <version>\Configuration

to fix this:

1. you should go ahead and copy this whole folder to your Administrator folder:

Windows XP

On Dreamweaver 8:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8\Configuration

On Dreamweaver CS3+:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver <version>\Configuration

 

Windows Vista

On Dreamweaver 8:

C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8\Configuration

On Dreamweaver CS3+:

C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver <version>\Configuration

2. Choose to replace files if asked.

then start DW again and you should get the installation wizard.

NOTE: If you still don't get it make sure you remove the file:

Windows XP

On Dreamweaver CS3+:

where xxxxxx is the extension short name like AdvHTMLEdit20 for Advanced  HTML Editor for example.
