Hi,

I keep getting errors when trying to access my site either from the server itself or from a remote computer. It tells me that too many users are connected, which is impossible because Im the only person who knows of it.
Now ive scoured through all of IIS's settings, and the only viable option I can find is under the "Internet Services Manager", then right click on the server, and under properties theres a "number of connections" option. This is currently set to 10. But whenever I try changing this number, I get an error message saying "The server you are administering has a hardcoded limit of 10 connections. Limit set to 10" - so its not letting me change it !?

Anyone got any ideas as to whats going on, Im logged in as Administer on Win2K Pro BTW.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Hi Adam,

Web serving with Windows 2000 Professional is more limited than with Server. For Windows 2000 Professional, Microsoft has imposed a limit of only 10 simultaneous connections. There is no imposed limit such as this on Server. I hope this answers one of your questions. I am not sure why Windows 2000 Pro may be telling you that too many users are connected if you are the only person trying to access it though. Very puzzling.

Jean-Marie

Hi Jean-Marie,

Thanks for the reply. I thought it might be that Win2K was restricted, though why the programmers @ microsoft felt the need to keep the interface, I mean if you cant change it, why tease us by leaving the option there !?
Ive had a look at a machine with Advanced Server running, and you can put the connection limit up to infinity and beyond, £3500 mind you .

So like you say, the source of the 10 connection limit has been found - but the reasoning behind it throwing up errors even though there is only one single connection on it, is quite baffling.

If you have any other ideas, please let me know - otherwise, thanks again for your help

Adam.

One possiblity (and it is a long shot), is the coding style of your page. Are you making multiple simultaneous connections to the server (possible retrieving 10+ include files).

I doubt that this is the problem, I'm really just thinking out loud here.....

in w2k Adv server open internet services manager.in the mmc you'll see your server name at the top right click it and select properties. you'll see 2 tabs iis ans server extensions. make sure www service is in the bos and click edit. another properties sheet wil open and on the default tab web site make sure connections button is selected unlimited.click apply ok. this should propagate to all sites. also you can do this at site level. the previous poster above was correct in saying win2k pro accepts 10 connection only this is by design.
If this doesnt work then i'm stumped too
best of luck
