When I click on "define Connection"The "Illegal Operation" dialog box comes up and shuts down Dreamweaver.I have uninstalled and reinstalled DW3 to no avail.I am using the same CD that I had previously used on Win 95 without any problem. My setup is as follows:
1)New computer
2)Win 98 SE
3)New DW3 Ultra installation
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sorry, I do not have a solution. Maybe you should browse www.macromedia.com/support/ultradev for a solution. Maybe the already covered the problem there.

It seems the problem is with the Intel Pentium 4 motherboard.DW3 Ultra does not like this board. This was tested on two Intel P4 motherboards and exhibited the same problem.Works fine on Intel P3.Guess I am not ready for latest technology.

Interesting problem, though I doubt that it's Motherboard related at all, as UD doesn't directly access any of the Chipset features of a motherboard that would likely cause a fail.
It is possible though that it's a P4 issue, though, again, as UD doesn't use any Processor optimization routines (unlike products like Director), this is a little unlikely too.
The fact that this is only happening when you are trying to Define a Connection, is it possible that you are using a later version of MDAC on these two machines ? I seem to recall issues with later versions of MDAC, so it is quite possible that the problem lies here.
Of all the hardware problems possible, it is also quite possible that the problem lies with your Display Driver, as this is the source of many woes for many people (not purely with UD I hasten to add).
The other thing to bear in mind with an illegal operation, is that the cryptic though it is, there is usually some information there that will provide a clue.
If you were getting Blue Screens etc, then it is more likely that you are experiencing a hardware issue. My experience has often taught me that Illegal Operations are mostly some form of software error, or conflict, so I would look there first.
I hope this information is of some use to you. I know that the UltraDev support section at MM's website does have some more information regarding the MDAC issue, though precisely where I cannot say. I would suggest that you have a look there as a starting point.
