Further to my message the other day regarding problems connecting Ultradev Mac to Chili!soft on a Raq I kind of have an answer - but it is not good ! A tech at Chili!soft suggested that this was virtually impossible - after pushing Macromedia, they eventually confirmed what Chili!soft suspected despite our various discussions with them earlier. It would seem that Ultradev Mac has some strange foible which means it can not talk to Linux/Chili!soft. The minor consolation is that they did also confirm my recollection of when I used Ultradev PC to connect to the Raq, that it can be done but I suspect that it is a bit of a struggle.
So.... if we want to continue Ultradevving, we either look into a Windows server or using Softwindows (or whatever) to connect the Ultradev PC on a Mac to the Raq.
One of the problems I feel is that Macromedia don't really have a broad enough depth on the techy side when it comes to Linux. So when we ask, "does Ultradev Mac --> Chilisoft Raq" they think, Ultradev does ASP and Chili is ASP, so the answer is "Yes". Well, it ain't so... and it's a pity, as we've found them good on other issues/products.
As Cobalt seems to be a major server out there, they must seek a solution ? I know this is a very broad subject but this seems to me to be a major gap. If anyone has alternate ideas on this, we'd be only too glad to hear them ! For us this is a real shame as Linux does us really well and design on a Mac is preferable in our case - we just have a missing link.
