Hi there guys, first time posting but long follower, anyway I am using dreamweaver cs3 and I come from a graphic design background and I figue this would be easy....well think again, all I am tying to do is somehow duplicate the look of this page
www.red.com

I have all the elements but just cannot get it ok here are the things that are going terribly wrong

by the way I am in a 1920 by 1280 monitor and whenever you extend the page everything stays very nice centered on this red page and I cannot do that because:

I try using a black picture .png so that I can use that as my center and write all the page elements in this black image in the middle of the page
I want to insert all kinds of stuff to this black space in the middle I already have my backgound set that is no problem, the problem is inserting text and images to this black image in the middle

help please

Hi Alex,

I don't think there is quite enough information to sort out the problem, but here are some suggestions for how to tackle it . . . <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

if you don't already have it, get Firefox and install the developer's toolbar extension and firebug, that will allow you to pick apart the page at red.com and see just what is going on with the css. I haven't picked it apart but I guess what is there is a series of nested divs, one with a fixed width inside another that has auto margins at the sides, that way the middle stays the same width.

Next thing - if you are working on a mac, get a copy of cssedit - this is a killer app as far as I am concerned when using css, it lets you look at a page like red.com and analyse any element, see the css and edit it on your local machine then see the effect immediately. No guessing what's going on. Magic. I don't get commissions for saying this!

Hope that helps a little
