This is the second time this has happened and I finally narrowed down to what was causing a ">" mark to appear at the top of a page that was never there before. It was this code: > ><

Question: what made this code go on the page? Did I accidentally use a keypad short cut or something? Did Dreamweaver put this in when it automatically "cleaned up" the code?

the first time it happened was on a completely different web site.
