Hello,I am preparing to build my first dynamic website and was hoping to set up a testing server on my own computer. I found out, however, that I need XP Pro in order to do this.
Does anyone know if it is possible to safely set up a testing server on an XP Home machine or is there another way?
Thank you!

Hi
when I was setting up for testing my first dynamic site I didn't want my development machine cluttered up with extras, so I took a different approach, mainly because I was on a dial-up connection that I paid for by the minute, it turned out to be a 'learning experience' - yes it was a lot of work!
I had an old machine lying around so I decided to make it into a server, the complete Linux, Apache, MySQL, php (LAMP) thing, then link it to my development machine via a network cable and ethernet switch.
It was certainly a learning experience, getting Linux installed and then configuring it, however, it worked and the network was amazingly fast, once it was running it was just like running off a remote server but it saved me a lot of cash because I only needed to upload the sites when they were ready.
Now I'm on broadband it's easier. I have a reseller package with a hosting company and have a couple of spare domain names that I use for testing.
