I have recently bought a new laptop and it was pre-installed with Vista Home Premium. I managed to get PHP running and also installed MySQL.

The problem is that Dreamweaver (8.02) cannot connect to the MySQL database on my local machine.

I develop in both ASP and PHP, so I do need an environment where I am able to work and test sites on both platforms.

My ASP sites are fine, but I still don't like MS SQL Server 2005, it is not as "friendly" as 2000, but the major issue I have is the need for me to connect to the MySQL server and to access the tables from DW. I did open port 3306 in Windows Firewall and found many useful sites that gave some tutorials on walk through's on how to set it up, but I still have no luck.

I do have my old desk top as a backup environment, but would like to do away with that after investing a large chunk of change into a high end lap top.

As one of my last resorts, I even tried to install XP Pro onto my laptop, but due to the type of hard drives (there are 2) it uses, the install process cannot find a drive to install on.

Any help, or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Hans
