This is my first visit to you all and in advance I thank you for any help forth coming.

I am going to try and create my first website and I have no experience in this what so ever. I have finally found a book that explains the process in easy terms that even I understand but I have already hit my first problem.

I have followed the instructions in creating my first html page, gone onto IE selected file, found my web folder, selected my html file (written on notepad) and the following box appears.
"type the internetaddress of a document or folderand internet explorerwill open it for you. within this box it shows my html file. When i click ok it only brings up the notepad file and does not show it to me as it would appear on the web.

I am most probably asking the world most stupid question but as previously mentioned I have a lot of enthusiam but no experience.

Can any one help the ultimate newbie

Merv

Hey Merv,
I see by the date on your post this reply may be a little late but I just joined the DMX Zone recently. Anyway, when you save files using Notepad the default extension is .txt. Even if you type in <b>filename.htm</b> Notepad will rename it <b>filename.htm.txt</b>. However, that's easy to fix when you save the file click the <b>Save as Type</b> drop-down arrow and click <b>All Files</b> then name it whatever with the .htm or .html extension. Or you can go into Windows explorer find the file and rename it with the .htm extension.
Hope that helps.
Jim
