I'm wondering if somebody can help out with this. I installed Dreamweaver 8 about a month ago and so far, it's been great, except for one thing: the local file area is annoying the heck out of me.

I have my files set up and open/close files and folders using Local Files area of DW. Like many DW users, this is how I navigate to and from pages, when making changes. Every time expand a folder, a bunch of unrelated folders expand along with it. If I collapse some of these folders, and expand a different folder later, they all re-expand. It's like a cruel joke. Every time I open something, a bunch of other stuff opens, and now my local file area is super long and it's difficult to navigate to any one of my 1700 files. I hope this makes sense.

So, for example, I've included a screenshot of my local site: I can close the first folder, /documentation/. But, if I go to open up /htdocs/, /documentation/ will also open up. As it stands now, I can never actually have all of the folders that you see below closed, because something else will always open up!

I am sharing the local file area with one other person, but we can't find any link between what is open and what refuses to close on the other person's computer.

I would very much appreciate any suggestions!

I think is not DW's fault. It is actually a setup that us not practical at all what you have. I would suggest to only select as your site the forlder that contains your html, ASp or PHP pages. The other folder that contain your raw material, should not be included. This will help you manage your site more efficiently. Go to Manage Sites, Edit site and only the folder with your HTML, images and whatever is in the site. Your Word Docs, Excel or other docs. if not in use on the site should be not included.

Good luck.
