Sorry for the incredibly long post but I'm a longtime GoLive user who, with the recent acquisition of Macromedia by Adobe, decided to migrate to Dreamweaver - pronto. With that said I've already built my two latest sites using weaver and I've got the hang of most of it but I find myself missing a few of the niceties from my GoLive days. I'm hoping most of this is just being unfamiliar with my new development tool so I thought I'd reach out for some help. Here's what I'm struggling with.1. GoLive's site / file management features seem a bit more robust to me in comparison. Namely GoLive was able to show a small bug icon for each file that had missing links or errors and was able to show a little bullet for "used" files. Essentially any file that was actively part of the sitemap would have a little bullet next to it while files not actively linked would not have this. This was helpful since somewtimes I build portions of a site in advance (monthly updates) that aren't ready to be published. Likewise it was easy to spot orphaned files and images and remove them as necessary. On top of this you could also label files with colors labels (in progress, old etc.) Any counterpart to any of this stuff in DreamWeaver land? Offhand DW's file management seems far more primitive.
2. GoLive focused a lot on drag and drop. You could drag tables, DIVs, image placeholders from the tool pallet into your document. You could even drag things outside your site panel into the site panel or even the document itself (whereupon GoLive would prompt to convert and save if appropriate). While I don't expect to be able to embed Photoshop smart documents into my html files any more I'd like to be able to drag elements from the insert panel in. However DW seems to focus on inserting your cursor where you want an element (DIV tag, table, anchor) from the insert panel and then clicking it. This annoys me since I'm accustomed to dragging things in. Moreover it seems some things can be dragged from the insert panel in DW while others can't. Any way to adjust this or do I have to adjust my brain?
3. I've used Memumachine (menumachine.com/examples/index.html) to build most of my drop down menus in GoLive. If anyone has ever used this extension you'd know it's an amazingly powerful menu builder with animation features, multiple menu types, sorting options, etc. What's the next best thing in Dreamweaver?
That's about it for now. There's plenty of other usability things that bug me but I'm adapting slowly. However without the above features I am feeling a little lost. Any help would be appreciated.
