I have a website that I am trying to re-make because I am getting a lot of spam in our 'leave a comment' section. The new site doesnt have that. I want to reload it to the same domain name. The current site was created by a company using who knows what program, the new one was created by me using Dreamweaver 8. I am uploading according to the Dreamweaver directions, but it isnt changing the site. My webhosting company said it was because I am uploading files to my home directory and I need to change to the www directory. I dont understand this and they arent familiar enough with Dreamweaver to tell me where to go. Can anyone help?

make a backup of the current live site.
Identify what is the default or index page they are using. Then in you new DW created site also use that default or index page setup or ask where you can change the home page file.
the upload your files and they should work fine. If not, reload your back up files of the previous website.

Hope it helps.

If you leave the directory box empty in your site definition then DW will connect to the highest or root level of your server, which is not where your files need to go. They will usually go into a directory called public_html (on a linux box anyway) which will probably have an alias pointing to it, something like www, so try putting www followed by a slash into it.

Have a look here www.lakesuk.com/temp_images/

Another thing you can do is get hold of an ftp program and use that to connect to your server then browse around to find the directories and files.
