Hello all, I am a newbie that really could use your help. I have built a basic website using dreamweaver 8. I have followed all of the tuturials I can get my hands on and I've hit a brick wall. When I try and access my website at www.jaxsigs.org all that comes up is an index page that lists all of the files. I know I must have something out of place on my local end, but for the life of me I cant figure it out!

You can see what the page is supposed to look like by clicking on "test2.html". I am sorry guys. I know this is probably very "newbish" or basic for most of you, but any help you can give this "newbie" would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
SlurmCola

You need to rename that file that is called test2.html to index.htm or index.html

When the server goes to your web directory it looks for certain files in order and serves the first one it finds, otherwise you may get that list of files.

The server often looks for index.htm, index.html, index.php

One of mine went further and looked inside folders until it found a file called index.php

Thank you for the quick reply!

That makes sense. Does this file have to be in a particular folder or does it matter? I cant wait to try it when I get home. <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Thanks again!

It always has to be at the root level, on your server that will be either public_html or www directory

on many servers they are the same place, www being an alias for public_html

Hope it works for you <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
