dsn-less hell
23 Jun 2001 16:18:26 jon badda posted:
hello. me again, i wrote earlier about the dsn-less connection and unusual FTP address.hope your glad to know i fixed the FTP port address problem if anyone cares, email me.
todays problem however is little different.
thanks to the help recieved in my last post i managed to get the dsn-less connection going and was able to design a test page i could then upload and view with live connection.
sounding simple?
weeeelll, i think im finding that UltraDev's ftp'ing is slow, bug riddled and hopeless.
But nonetheless i tried the live data preview. i think what UD is trying to do is upload a temporary ver of the page im wanting to preview (ie. components_e336357kl.asp), and isnt able to do it and fails and returns me a HTTP:/ error message.
so now ive stop trying, but what would be good is if i could see the page normally, except i dont think im passing the right connection string to the script.
is there a way to have both a folder string (ie c:\what\ever\database.mdb) and to also have a server side string to the database i have there...?
im really frantic here.
any help welcomed with open arms.

I thik that when you make the DSNless connection, you can use the server.mappath() function if you choose to use the "Application Server"
that would really be the best way to connect to the database
hope it helps,
