depends on your hosting package. Some allow you to set up cron jobs yourself, others ban them altogether and some will check out your request and then do it for you.
If your host gives you cpanel there may be a cron settings icon in there that will allow you to set up the jobs for yourself, I've only done a couple that way and in both cases there was a problem with the package setup that meant that it didn't work even though I had the details correct.
