Add instead of replace, I mean.

I'm making a index of written works, and I decided to have a reccomendation system instead of a rating system, since the only tutorial for rating systems I found doesn't work for MySQL due to commands. I have a form set up, where I have a hidden field with "1" in it, and I have the submit button, but I tried to set up the update record function, and it will only replace what is already in the rec count row of my database.

How do I modify this and make it add instead of replace?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
