Could someone please enlighten me or point me to some tutorials about a good way to set up dynamic navigation.

This is what I am trying to achieve:
HTML Navigation to detect what page it is on and hilight the appropriate navigation button/image/item.
Ultimately I would like to implement this via sever side script.
In the past I have been manually setting the hilighted state of a button image for each page, but thought there has got to be a easier/ dynamic way.
