I'm looking for a way to place a text box on a page in a shape other then a square, such as a triangle, so the text takes the shape of the text box. Can it be done, using layers or something other then inserting the graphics on an image or on flash? Or how can it be done, your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

if your talking about modifying a form textbox, then as far as i know, only width and height can be changed with 'character width' and 'number of rows'.

apart from that i don't think u can do as you're asking.

You can modify background borders and such with CSS, maybe you could do some more too. look around on google, or maybe W3 has some stuff on it

Dave,

What I mean is a text area such as, members.aol.com/u4iclight/textinhere.jpg/
just an area where text can be placed. And yes I made the image to small but I wasn't sure if it would be inserted in the post or it would just be a link so I made it for as if it would be in the post it self. I'm sure there is a way but if not flash with a transparent background for the clear area would have to do but it seem a bit overkill.

u cant do much more than modify the look and colours.
textareas etc.. are os specific objects and cannot be modified in this way.

the only way i can see you doing it is having a few textboxes stacked underneath each other, with different widths etc.. to form the shape. then take all the string values and put them together into one string.

but seems very far fetched. what is your reason for wanting to create a triangle text box just for my curiosity?

I'm not sure this is quite what you wanted, but check out Eric Meyer's project 'Sneaking Out of the Box' (www.ericmeyeroncss.com/projects/10/). It shows how to use CSS to create the illusion of curved edges on boxes which the text follows. The source code is in the Downloads section.

Dave, the reason I'm looking to do this is,

I want to make a different looking web page other then your typical page with text in square box. My concept is to have a textured background, then the text area (3 sided, bottom at 45%) with a colored background with some info in the upper left corner (but not completely on top to give room for the navigation bar) of a web page, then an image background in the lower right side which would contain a some text and information. So far the only way I've found to make a page that is a bit different in ways like that is with flash but I don't like the up download time it takes. I'm in graphic designs but getting into web design, I do know some but I'm still learning so I may be looking for something that is not posable, but I decided to start working on building some templates as I go and this is looking to be the first if it can be done.
