Hi,I'm developing a site that offers free trial software. I want the software to begin downloading once the download page is opened.

why force it?
give someone the option to cancel, otherwise it reeks of spyware and trojans to me.

Sorry, you definitely are going to web hell if you try to do that. Besides, now at days you are limited by the OS (Operating System).

do you mean that when they click on download, you get the download pop up and if this doesnt work, a link saying 'If the download does not start automatically click here'????
